Four Futures
Four Futures was a trans-media project exploring potential societies in a post-capitalist world. Inspired by the premise of Peter Frase’s book Four Futures, this project imagined how the intersection of climate change and advances in automation will reshape the world in the coming centuries and explore the lives of people living in these vastly different landscapes. A team of 30 artists collaborated on this work in two different formats—digital and in-person—to tell these sprawling stories using performance, comics, visual design, interactive fiction, and other interdisciplinary formats.
The Wandering
The Wandering was an immersive, interactive pseudo-performance to be experienced by one person at a time. Under the leadership of Executive Artistic Director Jeremy Paul, a creative team of dancers, painters, filmmakers, installation artists, writers, musicians, performers, and more constructed a gallery of dream-spaces that tell the story of a group of strangers brought together under mysterious circumstances. Part art gallery, part theme park ride or haunted house, The Wandering explored themes of connection/disconnection, individualism vs. collectivism, resilience, mourning, and use of artistic metaphor to reframe our lives.
2020 Storefront Residency Program
In 2020, Maelstrom Collaborative Artspresented a 6-week long residency program showcasing physically-distant + socially-relevant work to our neighbors in the Detroit-Shoreway and Cleveland community. Each weekend, new sets of visual and performing artists took over our storefront windows to create work that could be viewed from the safety of our sidewalk. This program continued our mission to create artistic platforms for local creators even in the midst of a pandemic.
Inferno
Inferno was an immersive performance remixing and reimagining Dante’s Inferno for 2019. 30 artists collaborated on a multi-level performance in an abandoned warehouse to create this large-scale explorable interdisciplinary work. More about the Inferno can be found here.
