Maelstrom Collaborative Arts looks for flexible, inclusive and adaptable artists & creators from the performing, visual, installation, and transmedia arts to venture into new territory with us. We seek artists who value collaboration, inquiry, generosity, and the growth of the Cleveland arts scene.

SHORTFORM - July 10-12

MCA's Mixed Media show SHORTFORM, returns this July 10-12th.  At Shortform performers from all over the creative spectrum showcase original live acts that are funny, absurd, experimental, and, above all, short. Each performance is 10 minutes or less in this tapas-style celebration of multi-disciplinary local work.  SHORTFORM is an exercise in adaptability, communication and (of course) collaboration. Application closes May 15th

All artists will receive a stipend of $200. Maelstrom's space, materials, and tools will be available for rehearsals, meetings, and creation.

  • Three nights July 10-12th 7:30pm

  • 10 minutes or less set

  • Pay: $200 per artist

  • Must be available for tech + dress rehearsals the week of the show

VIBES - AUG 2

VIBES is a musical showcase featuring artists from an array of genres. A day long casual summer festival that invites the neighborhood to drop in and check it out. Check out our previous livestreams here and here. Application closes May 15th

Like all MCA shows, VIBES is another opportunity to feature as many kinds of the Cleveland art as possible. So it doesn't matter if you make acid metal or blues folk music, if you're interested in our show let us know below!

The Details

  • August 2nd 2-6pm

  • 30 minute slot 

  • Pay: $150 per act

  • Must also be available for tech rehearsal Aug 1 or 2

BRICOLAGE - AUG 21-23

An explosion of new fusion works created by teams of creators from different mediums and backgrounds 

Closing out our summer Remixed Media series is Bricolage featuring musicians, dancers, visual artists, theater-makers, and more!

Selected artists will be paired with another artist from a different medium and each pair will collaborate on a new hybrid performance piece (approximately 15 minutes in length).  This is an opportunity to create new bold work within a discipline you may not be familiar with. Bricolage is another MCA exercise in adaptably, communication and - of course- collaboration.

  • August 21-23 7:30pm

  • 10-15 minute set co-created with another Bricolage artist

  • Pay $300 per artist

  • Must be available for tech + dress rehearsals the week of the show

  • Maelstrom's space, materials, and tools will be available for rehearsals, meetings, and creation. 

 

Guidelines for MCA's Curation

  • A majority of participating artists are non-white/BIPOC
  • A majority of participating artists are non-cismale
  • At least 20% of participating artists have not worked with MCA in the past

    • This evolving criteria is derived from the values in our Anti-racism, Accessibility and Inclusion statement and goals.
