ACTIVATE Storefront Window Series

ACTIVATE returned June 2022 to showcase physically-distant + socially-relevant work to our neighbors in the Detroit-Shoreway and Cleveland community. Our two large windows facing the corner of W 54th and Detroit Ave were activated by artistic voices of Cleveland throughout the every weekend throughout the month. This year, two artists — one live performer, one visual — created a performance or installation based on the four Tarot card suits: Wands, Pentacles, Swords, Cups.

Audiences can view the work from the sidewalk, and is free and open to the public! Join us every Friday at 7pm to kick off the weekend with a light reception sponsored by our friends at Astoria Cafe & Market

For this event, please keep in mind the following:

  1. Visual Art will be available for viewing throughout each weekend - Friday - Sunday, beginning June 3rd.
  2. Performances times will vary each weekend depending on the nature of each piece. Please check back for exact times or follow us on Instagram for updates.
  3. While the residencies are designed as a socially distant event, we understand that everyone has different comfort levels in regards to masking and social distancing. We still encourage all audience members to wear masks and maintain adequate distance between themselves on the sidewalk in front of Maelstrom and masks are required inside the space.

All artists are paid for this event! Donations help Maelstrom cover artist stipends and spaces costs. Every contribution helps us continue supporting local arts!
